Things to do and see in your 4WD camper or 4WD Car

If you are travelling to visit the Gorges in your 4WD camper in Broome you will need a Wilderness Park Permit valid 1-7 days.

  • Zebedee Thermal Springs

    (open from 05:30am to 12:00pm) – a short walk through dense tropical vegetation takes you to as series of thermal pools. Thermal water consistently rises from deep beneath the earth’s tectonic plates travelling from as far as New Guinea

  • Private Thermal pools

    are hidden amongst sheer cliffs and ancient Livingstonia Palms. Zebedee is a natural day spa which is closed to the general public and offered exclusively to guests of the homestead after 12pm. Allow ½ an hour return without swimming to get to Zebedee Springs.

  • Amalia Gorge

    is more of a steep sided valley than a narrow gorge system, offering spectacular views and deep plunge pool at the end of the trail. The trail is a challenging and adventurous experience. We recommend you take this walk in the early morning as it can become very hot later in the day. Allow 5 hours return without swimming to get to Amalia Falls and Pool.

  • El Questro Gorge

    this trail passes along a deep, narrow gorge flanked by sheer cliffs. If features clear pools and lush tropical vegetation. The first half of this track is along moist, sandy and rocky terrain and is suitable for most walkers. It remains cool throughout the day sue to the rainforest vegetation and the deep narrow topography of the gorge although there are small sections that offer no shade. Allow 2 hours return without swim to get to Halfway Pool and 5 hours return to get to the End Mac Micking Gorge.

  • Karijini National Park

    this vast ochre-red landscape encompass more than 200,000 kms of ancient rocks, Aboriginal rock art, gorges and waterfalls and unique flora and fauna. Here you will find the Bungle Bungle Range, a truly imposing sight of orange and black stripes beehive-like mounds. Get out of your 4WD camper and embark on interesting walks including the Echidna Chasm Walk, Mini Palms Walk and to Cathedral Gorge. As you venture into the range you will encounter a world of deep gorges and sparkling pools. Remember to carry enough food and water as there is no shop within the park. The final 53 km track into the park is only accessible only to four-wheel-drive vehicles.

  • Gantheaume Point

    is located approx. 6km from Broome. This is a scenic area with red cliffs and deep turquoise water. Visit the “perfect round” Anastasia Pool hand built by a former lighthouse keeper for his arthritic wife. At low tide you will find dinosaur footprints over 130 million years old. Take care when exploring this area as the reef area is very fragile in your 4wd rental Broome. Look out for the plaster cast of the tracks embedded at the top of the cliff.

  • Kooljaman Cape Leveque

    is located 220km north of Broome on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula. The 4wd rental drive is approx. 2.5 hours (with both sealed and unsealed roads). Last section of the track is very corrugated and narrow so please take care. Kooljaman is at the end of Cape Leveque Road and visitors can enjoy swimming, snorkelling and fishing or just relax and absorb the tranquillity of the surrounds.

  • Willie Creek Pearl Farm

    lies 38km north of Broome off Cape Leveque Road. It offers a rare chance of visiting a working Pearl Farm and it truly worth a visit. Tours of the farm operates daily so check the tour times before you leave. Here you will learn the intricate process of cultured pearling including live oyster seeding. Great educational demonstration for those interested in the pearling industry. The showroom houses extensive display of locally handcrafted jewellery and loose pearls for purchase at very competitive prices.
