The town of Kununurra is the gateway to the Eastern Kimberley making is an ideal base for anyone wishing to get around the region. The town sits by Lake Kununurra and is fed by the Ord River. One can sail, picnic or go wildlife spotting at Lake Kununurra and the the Diversion Dam is also an excellent spot for fishing or a picnic. For a terrific view of the area head for Kelly's Knob Lookout, approx 2 km north of Kununurra. A must visit is the Mirima National Park (aka Hidden Valley National Park). There are spectacular rock formations, walking trails and look out for native animals i.e. dingoes, wallabies, short-eared rock wallabies, echidnas, frogs, tortoises, geckoes, goannas, snakes and more.
